Pithos: Cloud Services in the Greek Public Sector

What it covers
Written when cloud storage meant Google App Engine, Amazon S3 and a Dropbox that gave you up to 8 GB, the column's hook is that a Greek public-sector service was offering 50 GB for nothing — the one non-negotiable condition being that you were a student or a member of staff at a Greek higher education institution. It goes through what the service actually provided: encrypted connections with authentication delegated to the institutions themselves, four ways in (a browser, a desktop client, two Firefox plug-ins, and WebDAV), and a user community around it.
