POP3 Checker

The successor of POP3 Deleter: the same listing and deleting on the server, over one or more accounts, with sizes.

2003Perl

POP3 Checker is a small perl script that retrieves the message information from one or more POP accounts, or deletes messages on the selected server. It also requires Mail::POP3Client from CPAN (external link, opens in a new tab). Current version is 0.7.

It is POP3 Deleter renamed, ten weeks later, and the name says what changed. The configuration moved to ~/.pop3checker/servers.conf, and -q reports the total size of the mailbox in kilobytes beside the count, which is the number you actually wanted before deciding whether to fetch. The usage text still announces itself as "POP3 Delete Utility v0.6" (a leftover I never fixed :)).

Usage

pop3checker.pl -s configuration: keep or drop the accounts on file, add new ones
pop3checker.pl -q message count and total size, per account
pop3checker.pl -i interactive: number, From, Subject and size, then delete / keep / fetch
pop3checker.pl -d delete: "all", "skip", or a list of message numbers (1,4,7)

The rest is as on the deleter's page: accounts one per line, every command over all of them, f in interactive mode saves a message to <n>.mail, and deletions are committed when the connection closes. Anthony Petropoulos also wrote a POP3 checker of his own in Python, mailview.py, with a Glade interface.

Where it stops

Where the deleter stops: plain POP3, no TLS, passwords in a text file, and nothing to point at an account today.

One of the small utilities (2002–2007); the others are listed there, each with a page like this one.
