What it builds
A script that parses an RSS feed with the standard library's XML support, pulls out each item's title, link, description, publication date and categories, and renders the posts — and a per-category index — into HTML through simple templates. It is a working programme rather than an exercise: XML parsing, string handling and file output in about the space a magazine page allows.
Where it sits
The tool it walks through is on this site as blog-py, which is also what generated the early years of this site's own blog.
Written from the paper itself — the PDF linked above, which this site hosts.
